Globe Medicinska škola Varaždin

The students of the Nursing school Varaždin have been participating in the GLOBE program for 19 years.

It all began in the year 1998., when the school began participating in the GLOBE program - The Global Learning and Observation to Benefit the Environment, and today they continue what previous generations have started under the lead of Prof. Marija Krajnik. Every year participation grows and today there are 15 students participating.

Our measurements include hydrology, phenology and atmospheric measurements. Every day our measurements are taken at out site in the school yard. We measure air temperature, soil temperature, humidity, pressure, clouds, cloud cover, precipitation and rain pH. Other than that we also analyze the water of the river Plitvica. We analyze the water pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, nitrites and nitrates. We have accomplished a partnership with the Grade school Belica and the II. grade school Čakovec. In addition to that there has been a field class in Domašinec, where we have analyzed the soil, water and phenology.

Our hard work has paid off, last year we have been at the GLOBE country fair in Zadar. Along with the orientation competition where we have won 6th place we have also presented out research project "PHYSICO-CHEMICAL ANALAYSIS OF THE PLITVICA RIVER AND THE MOTIČNJAK LAKE". Our school has been represented by the students Lana Bogović, Sara Hatlak and Stela Pevec.

We are also participating in the humanitarian action "With plastic bottle caps to expensive medicine" which helps people who are suffering from leukemia and lymphoma, while also protecting the environment.

We are looking forward to future generations and future research projects.
